The core of the Hawaii Geek Meet are several local groups that already get together to talkstory and share knowledge. Here are some of the local groups that have participated in the event:

  • Aloha State Radio Control Club/Hawaii Drones Group: Radio controlled aircraft and quadcopter pilots and enthusiasts.
  • Alohamoras at UH: A Quidditch team at the University of Hawai’i Manoa!
  • Aquaculture Hub: A social network for people who have an interest in feeding the world via aquaculture to educate, learn, share and be engaged with others who have similar interests.
  • Barony of the Western Seas (SCA Hawaii): The Barony of Western Seas is part of the Kingdom of Caid in the Society for Creative Anachronism. The SCA is an educational organization focused on the medieval and renaissance periods and has branches all over the world.
  • Bytemarks: A hui of local tech people that comes together for monthly geek lunches, and now a weekly sci-tech radio show on Hawaii Public Radio.
  • Code for Hawaii: Volunteers interested in open data, open knowledge, civic apps, big data, data visualization, APIs and the application of technology to make our communities better.
  • Computational Thinkers: From chalkboard to motherboard. We aim to ensure that all students are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
  • Costumers Guild of Hawaii: A group devoted to sharing costume builds, techniques, and ideas, and channeling efforts toward charity and community support. Dedicated primarily to fun!
  • The Last Outpost: A friendly organization of fans of science fiction. We meet regularly and support local conventions and host other events such as informal gatherings and movie showings.
  • D20 Girls Project – Hawaii Chapter (tentative): A non-profit organization that focuses on community and promoting females in nerdy industries.
  • Dev League: Dev League offers classes designed to transform motivated individuals into professional front-end web developers.
  • Drone Services Hawaii: Sales and service for a variety of drone products for personal, professional, commercial and government use.
  • Emergency Amateur Radio Club: Dedicated to amateur radio transmission, reception and experimentation.
  • Girl Genius Labs: Bringing creativity, ingenuity, and fun to both individuals and businesses alike with creative and professional/business workshops. 
  • GreenPath Technologies: A full service solar power systems integrator and contractor.
  • Hawaii Ingress Community: A cross-faction collaboration between members of the Hawaii Enlightened and Hawaii Resistance.
  • Hawaii Innovation Alliance: Representing the islands’ innovation community to foster innovation, educate lawmakers, and advocate appropriate policy.
  • Hawaii Inventors Club: Dedicated to providing innovative education and support that will stimulate members to guide their ideas through the idea development process.
  • Hawaii LEGO® Users Group: Dedicated to spreading the joy of those irresistible plastic building blocks in the islands.
  • Hawaii Public Radio: A private, non-profit that broadcasts classical, jazz, and international music; and in-depth news and informational programming state-wide.
  • Hawaii Science Writers Association: Science writers who call the Aloha State home, sharing ideas and learning from each other. We’re always on the lookout for local stories to cover and local publications to write for. 
  • Hawaiian Astronomical Society: Founded in 1949, the Hawaiian Astronomical Society is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting amateur astronomy in Hawaii.
  • Hawaii Nerf League: A local group for people who want to enjoy Nerf battles in a fun, yet competitive environment.
  • HawaiiThreads.com: A Hawaii-centric, general interest message board established in 2004.
  • HI Capacity: Honolulu’s first makerspace. A creative collective focused on turning dreamers into doers. Our goal is to learn, create, and share our creative knowledge with the community. We’re transforming dreamers into doers.
  • HiFashionTech: Education + Research + Development at the nexus of fashion, technology and [interaction] design. 
  • HiPad: The Hawaii iPad Users Group. “We will have fun talking about and sharing our experiences with the device, apps, issues, use cases, ideas and more. Our missions first and foremost is to have fun.” 
  • HMAUS – The Hawaii Macintosh and Apple User Society.
  • Honolulu Startup Weekend: Organizers for an intense 54 hour event coming April 27-29 which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend.
  • Institute for Astronomy: Manages observatories, and conducts research into the stars, planets and galaxies.
  • International Game Developers Association: A new Honolulu chapter is being formed! Look for Gorm Lai, founder of the Global Game Jam.
  • Kawaii Kon/Comic Con Honolulu: Comic Con Honolulu (also known as Hoku Kon) is a three-day All-Genre convention that takes place at the Hawaii Convention Center July 24-26.

  • LEGO Enthusiasts Association of Hawaii (LEAHI): A group of adult fans who enjoy modeling with LEGO bricks and working to promote interest in LEGO products within the community.
  • Oahu Makerspace: Oahu Makerspace is a space for people with a passion to pursue creative endeavors, including: Inventors, Engineers, Hobbyists, Shop Classes, High School Robotics, and STEM Educators.
  • Pacific Outpost of the 501st Legion (tentative): An all-volunteer organization bringing together costume enthusiasts to promote interest in Star Wars.
  • Rebel Legion: An international Star Wars costuming organization created by, of and for people interested in creating costumes from the Star Wars mythos.
  • Salle Honolulu Fencing Club: Fencing is the perfect combination of sport and martial art. Fencing offers all the benefits of traditional Oriental martial arts (discipline, strategy, competition, exercise).
  • SSG Honolulu (European Historical Martial Arts): The Schola Saint George is an international school of Historical European Martial Arts, also sometimes called Western martial arts. We teach medieval and early Renaissance swordsmanship.
  • Team Hawaii (Solar Decathlon 2011): Creating a sustainable and affordable housing solution adaptable to varied cultures and climates with an emphasis on Hawaiʻi and tropical climates.
  • Team Toybox 808 Armory: A collaboration of, artists, prop makers, crafters and cosplayers, teaching hands on techniques outside of the Box to create Epic costumes & props.
  • TechHui.com: TechHui is a forum for Hawaii’s tech community, and those interested in technology ventures in the islands.
  • ThinkTech Hawaii: Working to raise public awareness and promote civic engagement in Hawaii. Streaming live on the Internet from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm every weekday, then streaming earlier shows through the night. Check us out any time for great content and great community.
  • Transition Oahu: A grassroots community movement growing around our need to build increasingly sustainable and resilient communities, part of a worldwide movement working to meet the challenges of peak oil, climate change, financial crises, and natural and man-made disasters.
